The Award winning Royal Pavilion is a landmark 20-apartment building within the Duchy of Cornwall’s 400-acre Poundbury development. The scheme includes colonnades, vaulted arches, a central tower, and nearly 10,000 bespoke cast stone components.
Smart Crosby International (SCI) provided specialist structural design services directly to the main contractor, supporting the technical development and installation of the stone elements.
Through detailed structural modelling and load path analysis of the complex arch geometry, SCI identified opportunities to refine section thickness without compromising performance. This reduced overall weight, improved buildability, and enhanced material efficiency, while maintaining the architectural intent.
SCI’s analysis supported a more efficient and installation-ready solution for a high-profile and architecturally significant project.
